Temple
Temple can boast of a history
more than 100 years in the making.
The town's beginnings are traced to the growth days of the railroads. In 1882, the city was settled along what was then the Georgia Pacific Railroad lines.
The line was being constructed to connect Atlanta and Birmingham.
Just north of Interstate 20, 42 miles west of Atlanta and 11 miles north of Carrollton
via State Highway 113, Temple considers itself the third fastest growing city in Carroll
County.
The city is administered by a mayor and council form of government.
Temple citizens are well protected by the police and fire personnel.
The council meets the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and sessions are open to
the public. Mayor and council members serve four year terms on a staggered basis.
The city is proud of its schools. Temple High School and supporting middle school and
primary/elementary school provide excellent educational opportunities for aspiring
scholars. Extracurricular activities abound at all the schools with the community.
Churches have always played significant roles in the life of Temple residents. The
usual Protestant denominations have an influential presence in Temple or its immediate
environs while a Roman Catholic church is only a few miles south on Highway 113.
