Villa Rica
The
City of Villa Rica is located approximately 30 miles from Atlanta, in
close proximately of Six Flags over Georgia and Talladega Speedway,
along Interstate 20 (I-20).
Established in 1826 as a gold mining
town, the name Villa Rica translated to mean "rich city." Everyone
associated with the city will tell you it is rich with advantages.
Countless folks have settled in Villa Rica because it combines country
and city lifestyles.
The historic downtown (listed on the
National Register of Historic Places) is often referred to as "quaint"
by the numerous tourist that come to shop the antiques stores or dine in
one of the six restaurants, while visiting Art Galleries or coffee
shops.
With less congested city streets,
the pace of life is slower; residents can and do know their neighbors by
name, merchants still know each other and customers' names. Police and
fire protection bring a sense of security while schools, churches, and
recreational facilities feed both body and soul.
The City of Villa Rica boasts many
accomplishments due in part to the enormous citizen volunteer base,
which include the DDA, Tourism Bureau, Business Alliance, and Civic
Clubs, each one helping to make Villa Rica a "hometown" for residents
new and old.
The City of Villa Rica is governed
by a Mayor (elected at large) and five council members (elected by ward)
who establish city policies. The City Manager, who directs operations
through Department Heads, implements daily directives.
